The entire city plunged into darkness on Wednesday evening as the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) underwent an acute shortfall of around 750 megawatts, reportedly due to the tripping of the National Transmission Line at Jamshoro. KESC Public Relations Director Sadiq Jaffery blamed WAPDA for the breakdown, saying ‘the tripping occurred as heavy transmission lines fell due to gusty winds. KESC has so far restored up to 30 percent of the system. The remaining will be [restored] by midnight,’ Jaffery added. Power had not been restored to Karachi till the filing of this report.
