Karachi has according to the directive of the Supreme Court of Pakistan started razing constructions made in city parks including library buildings, union council offices and other structures.
The special operation initiated on Wednesday will continue till the removal of constructions from 164 enlisted parks of city.
Additional EDO Revenue Matanat Ali Khan monitored the operation while District Officer Land Management-II Saif Abbas, District Officer Enforcement Abdul Malik and other senior officers of Revenue Department were also present on this occasion.
City Government staff equipped with heavy machinery razed constructions in Niazi Park Sharifabad, Tariq Muhiuddin Park Gulberg Town UC-6 and the park adjacent to Sobhraj Maternity Home.
The demolition of double storey Library Building in Joharabad Football Ground near Azizabad Police Station had been postponed for a day after the protest of area people who said that the library building was constructed by defunct KMC and was inaugurated by its then Administrator Saeed Ahmed Siddiqui on 25th October 1987.
According to details when the city government staff with heavy machinery reached at the Joharabad Park in Azizabad union council 2 adjacent to Azizabad Police Station to demolish the double storey Library Building, the residents of the area protested. They said that the Library Building was constructed by defunct KMC and the area people especially senior citizens had benefited from this facility.
After the negotiations between the city government officers and the prominent persons of the area it was decided to postpone the action till tomorrow and to allow the shifting of all books and other things from this building to some other place.
The demolition squad also demolished construction in Tariq Muhiuddin Park of Gulberg Town with the help of heavy machinery while the concrete building of library adjacent to union council-7 office in Sharifabad(Liaquatabad Town) was also razed after the shifting of all record of union council.
City Government staff will continue this demolition operation till the removal of all constructions in city parks.
